Gary Neville blasts ‘old failings’ at Man United as they struggle to get transfers over the line

‘It almost becomes a bit of an embarrassment’: Gary Neville blasts ‘old failings’ at Man United as they continue to struggle to get transfers over the line – as Frenkie de Jong saga rumbles on

Gary Neville has hit out at the ’embarrassment’ of Manchester United’s familiar woes in the transfer market.

Chelsea are reportedly confident of beating their Premier League rivals to Barcelona‘s Frenkie de Jong, despite United’s three-month pursuit of the Dutch midfielder

And Neville, speaking on the Overlap, in partnership with Sky Bet, insisted ‘old failings’ were coming back to haunt the Red Devils.

He said: ‘There are two things about the transfer market for Manchester United that’s concerned me – one is the fact that the old instinct seems to be there, in terms of not being able to get anything over the line.

‘I think every Manchester United fan is a little bit tired of us. I said this about Sancho and it’s the same now with De Jong – it gets to the point where a signing that should be an excitement for the club becomes dragged on too long.

‘It drags on that long that actually in the end you actually lose excitement for the signing, it almost becomes a little bit of an embarrassment – and it’s still happening. So, I’m really concerned about the fact that they can’t get signings over the line still.’
