Sensational wife-swap theory hits NBA during The Finals with Steph Curry’s parents at the centre

Sensational wife-swap theory hits NBA during The Finals between Golden State and Boston as Steph Curry is swept up in jaw-dropping rumours

  • The Golden State Warriors star was the hero in game four of The NBA Finals
  • However, the spotlight quickly shifted to his parents and their new partners
  • His parents were spotted at game four of The Finals with their new partners
  • It is alleged that his mother Sonya and father Dell are dating people that used to be married to each other, after they divorced in 2021 amidst infidelity claims

While the drama of The Finals is playing out on-court in the NBA, a saga that would be at home on reality television show Wife Swap USA is playing out in the stands.

Just hours after Steph Curry rained hellfire on the Boston Celtics with a game-high 43 points to level the series, attention turned to his parents in the stands – or more accurately, who his parents were cuddling up with while they supported their son.

Sonya and Dell Curry divorced in 2021 after three decades of marriage, with both parties citing infidelity on the other side as their reason for ending the union.

‘After exploring a trial separation over the past year and much thoughtful consideration, we have decided to end our marriage,’ they said in a joint statement to People magazine.

‘As this comes with a great deal of sadness, our focus and desire is for our family’s continued happiness.’

During the all-important game four of the NBA Finals, though, both Dell and Sonya stepped out with new partners.

While there is nothing odd about divorced parents moving on, their choices raised plenty of eyebrows because Dell’s new flame and the man accompanying Sonya used to be married to each other.

During their divorce proceedings, Sonya Curry claimed that Dell had multiple affairs during their marriage. Dell counter-claimed that Sonya had an affair with former New England Patriots tight end Steve Johnson. Both denied any indiscretions.

After Curry’s heroics in game four of The Finals, he was filmed giving his mother a warm hug while Johnson stood behind her. During the match, Dell was filmed cosying up with Johnson’s former wife Nikki.

While the Currys divorced in 2021, they filed for legal separation in 2020. It was then that Dell claimed Sonya was living with Johnson in Tennessee so he shouldn’t have to pay her alimony. She denied those claims.

Numerous US media outlets have reached out to Dell and Sonya for confirmation on their unique relationships and the online allegations of a wife swap. Neither party has responded to date.

It also comes after Steph and his wife Ayesha were forced to shut down rumours they were in an open marriage earlier this year.

‘Don’t disrespect my marriage like that,’ Ayesha said at the time.

There is little doubt that having his parents in the spotlight will be an unwelcome distraction for Steph Curry as his Warriors line up against the Celtics in game five on Tuesday at 11am AEST.

The Warriors return home to the Chase Center in San Francisco after securing a vital road win to keep their hopes of another Championship alive. It will be a welcome return home for the Warriors, with star player Klay Thompson revealing some of the abuse they copped in games three and four in Boston.

‘We’ve played in front of rude people before,’ Thompson said.

‘Dropping f-bombs with children in the crowd. Real classy. Good job, Boston.’
